We receive lots of requests for cakes with a particular hobby or sporting theme in mind and this golfing design is no exception. Bespoke designs don’t always have to be huge but the design should be in scale to the size of the cake. We love to come up with ideas to suit all budgets and there’s no project too small. This cake was for Graeme who was celebrating a big birthday.
We hope you had a wonderful time over the festive period! Now it’s almost time to take down those decorations and think about getting back to normal. We know from our order book that some of you have special reasons for celebration in 2017 and we can’t wait to showcase some of the designs that will be leaving our studios in the coming months.
Happy New Year to all our customers!

We love being part of your birthday celebrations and this week was a particularly big week for milestone birthdays! This family affair brought together a large group of friends and family for a luxury 80th birthday celebration which was held at the Coombe Abbey Hotel, Coventry. Our 2-tier sponge cake adorned with a daisy chain design was the star attraction – well, apart from the birthday girl herself, that is.
It’s always interesting to hear your ideas for special cake designs – and it’s great fun putting your ideas into action and seeing the end result. This featured design was requested for a man who enjoys spending time with his pals and when they’re all together they enjoy the odd game of dominoes. Confidentially, we’re told that he only plays dominoes on days ending in ‘y’!
This is a triple-decker chocolate and vanilla sponge cake.
Celebrating a 21st birthday with a traditional design ‘key of the door’. A key of the door was presented as the gateway to the future. We think the future’s sweet for this birthday girl.
A cake for a visitor from New Zealand was the request, ‘…and it has to be black’. This boldly different and chic birthday cake was the result. We hope it brought memories of home.
I don’t know anyone who doesn’t look forward to receiving presents and parcels on their birthday, do you? Then, who could possibly resist a beautifully packaged birthday cake shaped and wrapped to look just like a parcel? There will be no ripping off the paper with this parcel, though, simply cut to reveal the delicious layered cake inside. With each tier a different flavour there is plenty to tickle the tastebuds. You can have your cake and eat it!
It’s been another busy birthday week and sometimes, we have to admit, you lovely people out there can leave thoughts of cakery treats till the last minute. Fortunately, for one young man, we were able to include a late request from his mum for something to tickle his fussy tastebuds – nothing too fancy, you understand. We think these vanilla cupcakes fitted the bill perfectly and we thought these emoji characters added some extra fun to the celebrations.
You can’t have failed to notice that a big birthday has been celebrated this week. We may not have got the call to make a cake for HM Queen Elizabeth but we did get to make lots of cakes for other people celebrating big birthdays this week. This is one of our favourite selections because it features Oreo cupcakes and gold decoration. So, you see, these cupcakes are fit for a Queen – or, at least, a Queen for a day.
We’re often asked to produce cake in someone’s favourite cartoon characters. We try to keep up with trends. Here is one such request. A cake theme from the Studio Ghibli animation film studios. Say hello to Totoro and friends….
This cake is dairy-free and low sugar to suit special dietary requirements.
When we received a call from a mum to make a special cake for her son the dietary requirements were challenging to say the least.
First and foremost it had to be a Tinkerbell cake and green (of course), then it had to be dairy-free and soy- free, and it had to be low in sugar. As we set to work, we decided to make it as low in sugar as possible including making our own sugarpaste using a low sugar alternative.
Here’s the finished cake…..one very green Tinkerbell fairy princess and a very happy little boy and his mum.
We were quite pleased with the result, too!
We’ve all had one of those moments haven’t we – you know, when we want cake? Sometimes, though, a single cupcake simply isn’t enough! So, here’s the answer – the giant cupcake! These large-scale beauties are made for sharing and they’re just the thing when you need to send a special message to someone – your very own message muffin, hand-baked and decorated in a range of colour options. This one is Red Velvet – a light chocolate dessert cake in a rich deep red colour with our own recipe cream cheese frosting – like velvet with satin – elegant, divine.
The Christmas shindigs are over for another year but don’t worry – if you’re not full from all that festive food, we have cake!
You can send an enquiry via our contact page on this website, contact us by email, call direct or send us a message on Facebook.
We look forward to hearing from you as we continue to turn cake into art throughout 2016. Cheers!
We love designing birthday cakes for kids. They can follow a particular trend, a TV programme or a film and we get just as much fun out of making them as seeing the look of joy and excitement on the children’s faces (and their parents faces, too!).
As you can see, this design is for a big fan of Timmy Time – a little lamb with a lot to learn. Happy 1st Baa’thday, Lawson!
Those of you who follow football will know that things haven’t been going too well of late for a certain ‘special one’ at Stamford Bridge!
We know that, despite the poor results, this wasn’t going to interfere with the party celebrations for a young man whose birthday it was recently. Knowing that he was a die-hard Chelsea FC supporter, what else could we do but design a cake in his team colours. We hope he had a great birthday and this special cake helped to soften the blow of another poor result for his favourite football team.
As you can probably imagine, we get lots of orders for cake and cake colours vary right across the colour spectrum. In recent months, though, one colour has risen above all others to become the firm favourite – the colour pink.
Now, obviously, we all know that pink is the official colour for little girls and stands for sugar and spice and all things nice but this surge in requests for pink coloured cakes also led us to think about what other meanings the colour pink might have and we came up with these gems:
Pink is a delicate colour that means sweet, nice, playful, cute, romantic, charming, feminine, and tenderness. ‘In the pink’ means healthy. Tickled pink means being happy and content. While both red and pink represent love, the colour red represents heat and passion; the colour pink represents romance and charm. Hot pink is used to communicate playfulness, while light pink is used to communicate tenderness.
So, you see, it’s understandable that people like pink cake because it conjures up sweetnessand affection.
There are many of you that love a cupcake. And what’s not to love? They are delicious little cakes designed for one person and the flavours and toppings are many and varied. We supply cupcakes for weddings and baby showers, birthdays and anniversaries.
Cupcakes are also ideal for informal celebrations and are often the cake of choice for events at work – a new product launch, the end of a successful project, a job promotion, a team building event, staff parties – the list is endless.
A cupcake can be eaten any day of the week. There’s no need for a special reason to indulge.
Next Week is NATIONAL CUPCAKE WEEK (14 – 20 September) celebrating all things cupcake. Don’t be left out – go on, treat yourself (and your friends).
There have been lots of celebrations this week and we’ve been involved in most of them!
We can always guarantee there will be lots of colour in our customers’ birthday cake requests. The colour pink (and its variations) has been the trend recently. Check out this cute 1st birthday cake, made dairy-free, for Ivy-Mae. We hope she had a lovely day.
Make your child’s next birthday bash stand out with one of our creative birthday cakes. The Top 10 in all-time favourites for kids’ birthdays still include jungle, train and pirate themes for boys and princess, Hello Kitty and My Little Pony for the girls.
A little girl was celebrating her first milestone this week with this colourful creation – completely different to the norm and dairy and gluten-free. We hope she had a lovely time.
