Seasonal Orders

December is always a very busy time for us bakers. It’s also a short month so that we always advise our customers to order their celebration cakes early as – just like in the high wedding season – December is always booked up early. This year has been exceptionally busy and, regrettably, we’ve had to disappoint a lot of people. Take a look at our contact page for the suggested length of notice we usually ask for then at least double it during peak periods.

Whatever the time of year and whatever you’re celebrating – please ensure you order in plenty of time to avoid disappointment.

We’ll take this opportunity to wish all our customers the very best of the season and we look forward to providing more fabulous designs for you in 2019.

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Calling out for a hero…..

We all know trends come and go. There is always the next new ‘big thing’ but one request that is always on trend is the call for Superhero cakes. Here is one such request from a young man who has had a tough year. For his birthday nothing less than the man of steel would do. it had to be Superman and it had to be chocolate.

No sooner said than done! We hope it made his day.

There’s a superhero in all of us – we just need the courage to put on the cape!

Caught on Camera

The story behind this birthday cake is that the birthday boy is a keen photographer. His wife had a few ideas about how she wanted to honor his milestone birthday and this was the end result. We included an edible replica of the Nikon Camera complete with strap made with fondant and included a few images around the side to add to the effect.

Cakes for the Girls…

When it comes to choosing a birthday cake, little girls always go for the classics… princesses, Frozen, fairies, flowers and My Little Pony are among the favourite requests.

One of the biggest trends though is the Unicorn – fluffy layered sponge, covered in buttercream or sugarpaste and with a beautivul mutl coloured tumbling mane. What little girl wouldn’t love a Unicorn for her birthday?

Giant Cupcake Week

We know just how much you love our cupcakes and we also know how much you love a slice of cake. Well here’s the chance to have the best of both worlds – in the shape of a giant cupcake. We have to say that these giants are a particular favourite with the guys – chocolate flavour, covered with your favourite chocolates – yes, we can see the attraction! Just for a change, why not try the zingy lemon flavour, vanilla or even caramel flavour with salt caramel buttercream? With all the trimmings these beauties are definitely a show stopper – and there’s lots to go round. Go on – you know you’d love one…..

Weddings

For this beautiful wedding the bride and groom wanted something to reflect their personal style and chose to celebrate with a naked wedding cake. Three different and distinct flavours – chocolate fudge, ginger and lemon – one for each layer and finished with a selection of fresh berries. The whole effect looked stunning and Wethele Manor was the perfect backdrop for the occasion. We would like to wish the happy couple a wonderful future together.

On your Mark’s…

What better way to celebrate a big birthday than with a giant cupcake? When the call came in we found out that Mark is partial to a bit of chocolate so there really couldn’t be any other flavour – chocolate cake and a few of his favourite sweets, too. We hope he gave Emma his last Rolo for dreaming up this delicious surprise!

Weddings

Trends for weddings are constantly changing and we love having the opportunity to come up with new ideas and styles for wedding cakes. Sarah and Martin had their hearts set on a woodland theme. The cake consisted of mouthwatering lemon, chocolate and dairy-free vanilla sponge cakes. The whole effect was stunning and we hope that Sarah, Martin and their guests enjoyed it.

Birthday Girl

‘Help! I need a cake – and fast!’

We hear this so many times from our customers. Sometimes, it’s because another member of the family was arranging for the cake, sometimes it’s because of a last minute decision to celebrate and other times it’s a last minute reminder. Of course, we like as much notice as possible as schedules fill up quickly and if requests call for intricate or extraordinary designs, then it may not be possible to fulfill an order – and we don’t like letting people down.

Luckily, in this instance, we were able to help. Our brief was for something elegant and it had to be chocolate flavour. So, here we have an indulgent chocolate fudge layer cake, embellished with flowers and pearls. Let the celebrations begin…

Pokemon Go…

We’ve been looking into the realm of Pokemon recently. Pokemon is currently trending for kids parties and as we all know – it isn’t a party without cake. So, for all you Pokemon fans out there – here’s the cake, now lets party……..

Celebrations

It’s always interesting to hear your ideas for special cake designs – and it’s great fun putting your ideas into action and seeing the end result. This featured design was requested for a man who enjoys spending time with his pals and when they’re all together they enjoy the odd game of dominoes. Confidentially, we’re told that he only plays dominoes on days ending in ‘y’!

This is a triple-decker chocolate and vanilla sponge cake.

Birthdays

Sometimes, when a big celebration is being planned, it’s difficult to decide on the type and size of cake you need. You’ll wonder if you have enough cake, whether it will stand out on a buffet table heaving with enough snacks and savouries to feed a mob.

Sometimes a single tier cake just won’t fit the bill, no matter how big it is. Adding extra tiers can provide greater impact and another bonus is that each layer can be flavoured differently to give your guests more choice. The cake featured here was for a 21st birthday celebration but can easily be adapted for an anniversary or other big celebration.

The flavours used here were chocolate and vanilla – a delicious combination.
